What will you experience at a meeting?
We all remember what it was like for us at our very first Overeaters meeting. We were scared. We wondered how we would be treated. We worried about being judged for being out and outright fat or different from everyone else. We have always been fat or different. We have fought with, wrestled with, and struggled with our weight, our body image and our relationship with food from very early in life all our whole lives; even back in our school days and maybe even before then.
What we experienced from our first meeting was acceptance, not judgment. What we experienced was joy from the others in the room at our being there. We experienced a welcome like we had not ever before had. There was warmth. Later meetings, we felt more and more acceptance, joy, welcome, and even love. It has been said in Overeaters and Alcoholics Anonymous literature keep on coming back, it works if you work it and you're worth it and keep coming back until your miracle happens. Some may even think that it should be "miracles" because our first miracle was the fact we began to start loving ourselves. That is where it started for some of us. It was a relief having a safe place to go for welcome, acceptance, warmth, even love and absolutely NO judgment.
